Kings U16's Make Amends

Melton Kings U16's played Ashby Aztecs for the second time this season, and avenge a previous loss.

In December 2018 Kings travelled to Ashby and came up just short, losing in single digits in a what was a scrappy game. Disappointed in that result, the team were keen to make amends in a repeat fixture.

Fast forward to March 2019, Kings got a chance to make up for that disappointing loss.

The start of the game was a close affair, with kings just edging things by a point after 5 minutes, however, things were to quickly change as Neath scored 7 straight points and assisted on others to help Kings go on a 13-0 to help kings finish the first quarter 18-6.

The second quarter saw the best basketball of the game, as confidence was growing amongst the team, racking up an impressive 28 points in a quarter. This was all from stifling defence which lead to some excellent transition and attacking basketball, with Rochelle scoring 6 points in this period and Tilson adding an impressive 14, meaning the Kings finished the first half with a commanding lead of 46-14.

The second half started in similar fashion, with fast free flowing basketball, capped off by two, 3 pointers by Sharp, offensively Kings didn't seem to struggle, however their defence started to loose it's intensity with Ashby scoring 15 in this period.

With an emphasis on defence in the forth quarter, Kings managed to hold Ashby to single digits again, but by now the game had lost its pace with the game already decided, as Kings ran out 75-35 winners.

The game showcased the remarkable improvement in this groups ability to play together, especially passing, cutting and finishing at the basket around physical contact. Improvements still need to be made in outside shooting and on ball defence, but overall, a great win.

Top Scorers:

Tilson - 23

Rochelle - 14

Neath - 13

Sharp - 13

Haig - 4
