Despite missing a couple of key team player Melton under 12’s were able to come out convincing victors with a 45 - 11 win against the Blue Coat Academy at the Mapperley Sports Village.

Melton started quickly Willow Baxter-Clucas and Billy Parker dominating the boards, taking good rebounds and converting into points. Both Fin Tuck and Oscar Hunt were strong against a physical Bluecoat team and enabled the team to withstand the early pressure. In the second quarter Nathan Britton making his debut for the team showed his potential with excellent running providing space for Jack Bloor and Jack Healing to put more points on the board. Nathan’s running was rewarded with an excellent lay-up and two more points. During this period Billy’s rebounding started to dominate with 3 successive quick baskets.

In the second half Oscar and Fin again created space and harried the opposition into making mistakes. Both players took heavy knocks but showed strength in carrying on and taking the game to Blue Coats. Nathan continued his good work and was again on target with two quick baskets. The final quarter started with the team being asked to increase their defensive intensity. The players responded positively with the opposition being unable to find the hoop for the whole of the last quarter. The excellent defence enabled Willow the opportunity to make key interceptions and find her team with several long passes which they duly converted.

All in all, a very good game for a team planning for the future.

Scores- Nathan Britton 6, Jack Bloor 8, Jack Healing 10, Willow Baxter-Clucas 8, Billy Parker 12
